What is MultiLiner made from?

MultiLiner insulation boards are produced from non-combustible cellulose fibre cement sheet, factory laminated to non-combustible rock mineral wool slab. Lightweight to handle and easy to cut – these boards can be used for protecting semi-exposed soffits on concrete decks or upstands and parapets in roofing applications.

Rock mineral wool is made from quarried diabase rock and recycled steel slag. It is non-combustible and has the best possible Euroclass A1 reaction to fire classification. The insulation contains a water repellent additive to ensure that no liquid water is able to pass through and reach the structure.

Cellulose fibre cement is durable, lightweight, and weather resistant. Fibre cement boards will not rot, providing protection from extreme weather conditions. At Panel Systems, we use non-combustible cellulose fibre cement in our MultiLiner boards to achieve the required reaction to fire classification.

Specifying MultiLiner for semi-exposed concrete deck insulation

Semi-exposed concrete deck insulation can help to improve the energy efficiency of a building and insulation panels can also be used for the thermal upgrading of semi-exposed concrete decks.

Panel Systems’ new MultiLiner A1 panels are available to buy in a standard 1200 x 600mm sized board and we can offer an additional support service offering U-value, acoustic and wind loading calculations. For semi-exposed applications, the insulation thickness options are larger than when specified for roof upstands, and these thickness options are as follows:

  • 126mm
  • 136mm
  • 166mm

You can find the nominal weights for each thickness option below:

ThicknessNominal weights
126mm21.1kg/m2
136mm22.6kg/m2
166mm25.3kg/m2

What R-Values can you achieve using MultiLiner A1 on a semi-exposed concrete deck?

The R-Value of your boards depends on the thickness option you specify. Below are some examples of R-Values depending on the board thickness when it comes to buying MultiLiner A1 lightweight concrete deck insulation boards:

  • 56mm: 1.39 W/mK
  • 126mm: 3.34 W/mK
  • 136mm: 3.62 W/mK
  • 166mm: 4.45 W/m.

Specifying MultiLiner for roof upstands

What should you look for in an insulation material for roofing applications?

It is important to find a material for roof upstand insulation that meets all necessary compliance standards and regulations. MultiLiner offers excellent thermal properties, and can withstand extreme climatic and working conditions, making it a reliable option for roof upstands. Visit MultiLiner insulation boards for roofing applications to find out more.

For roof upstands, the MultiLiner A1 board is available in 1200 x 600 x 56mm as a standard size option. However, other sizes are available upon request. For guidance on installing MultiLiner upstand applications, you can download our brochure.

What standards does MultiLiner meet?

What are the Euroclass and EN 13501-1 standards?

The Euroclass system was introduced to harmonise standards across Europe. It categorises products into one of seven reaction to fire classes, ranging from A1 (non-combustible) down to F (the worst performing class in terms of combustibility).

The European Standard EN 13501-1 provides the reaction to fire classification procedure for all products and building elements.

According to this standard, reaction to fire is the response of a product in contributing to a fire to which it is exposed, under specified conditions. This is determined through a defined test or combination of tests.

Which fire classification is required?

In 2018, changes were made to Approved Document B of the building regulations to improve the fire safety of properties. One of the changes imposed is to ensure the use of non-combustible materials in the walls of relevant buildings, which must now be Euroclass A1 or A2-s1,d0.

MultiLiner has been tested in its reaction to fire and achieves A1 classification in accordance with EN13501-1:2019. A1 is the best reaction to fire classification for non-combustible materials, making it a reliable option for complying to regulations and increasing safety.

Zero Ozone Depletion Potential

MultiLiner also has zero Ozone Depletion Potential (ODP) and zero Global Warming Potential (GWP). It is important to supply and install products that have ODP, as this can boost your reputation as a specifier or contractor.

Excellent R-values

R-values demonstrate how good a product is at providing thermal insulation. It is ultimately a measurement of how well a two-dimensional barrier, such as a layer of insulation, a window or a complete wall or ceiling, resists the conductive flow of heat.

The R-value depends on the type of insulation, its thickness, and its density.
It is important to consider R-values when specifying a product- as this ensures your products are effective in providing thermal insulation.
