High-performance CNC routing and cutting for laminates, composites, cladding panels and specialist components — engineered in Sheffield.

Panel Systems delivers precision CNC machining for panels, solid laminates, composites and specialist components from our purpose-built facility in Sheffield.

With advanced 3-axis and 5-axis capability under one roof, we machine everything from straightforward profiles to complex, multi-face components with tight tolerances and consistent repeatability.

With over 50 years of experience in panel-based materials and manufacture, and our own delivery fleet covering the UK, we offer a CNC machining service that is accurate, efficient and easy to work with – a partner you can rely on for critical components and time-sensitive projects.

Heritage

CNC machining has been a part of our work for many years, and in 2014 we established a dedicated in-house CNC division.

Bringing the service under one roof has allowed us to invest in our range of machinery, strengthen our engineering capability, and maintain tighter control over quality and lead times. It also means customers benefit from a complete, dependable, end-to-end service.

Today, our CNC division blends decades of panel-manufacturing knowledge with high performance 3-axis and 5-axis capability — providing a flexible, knowledgeable and value-led service for customers with complex or technically demanding requirements.

  • 50+ years of panel manufacturing expertise
  • 30+ years of CNC experience, delivered from a modern, purpose-built facility
  • A team of highly skilled staff, with valuable experience in panels and machining
  • ISO 9001, FSC® Chain of Custody and Investors in People accreditation

We focus on building long-term customer relationships, while still supporting one-off projects when needed. Around 70% of our CNC work comes from repeat customers — a measure of the trust and confidence we’ve earned over time.

What We Machine

We work with a wide range of materials and can machine both PSL-supplied and customer-supplied stock.

Laminate and solid surface panels

  • Compact / solid grade laminates including Fundermax, Formica, Abet, Polyrey, Greenlam & Arpa
  • Exterior grade laminates for cladding and outdoor furniture. Brands include: Trespa® and Abet MEG.

Composite and specialist panels

  • Laminated composite panels
  • Honeycomb panels
  • Lightweight panels
  • MFC and decorative laminates
  • Cladding and façade panels

Foams, plastics and other materials

  • XPS foam (Extruded Polystyrene) including Ravatherm and Fibran
  • PET recycled foam
  • Polypropylene, Perspex and other engineering plastics
  • MDF and plywood panels

We are fully equipped to machine customer-supplied materials, assessing each material for suitability and machining behaviour before production. This allows customers to use their preferred brands, grades or pre-purchased stock with confidence.

If your project involves a panel material not listed here, we can usually accommodate it. Share the material specification and our team will confirm suitability.

Capabilities and Equipment

All CNC machining is carried out in-house at our Sheffield facility, using modern, high-performance 3-axis and 5-axis routers. This gives us the flexibility to machine everything from straightforward profiles to complex, multi-face components with tight tolerances.

Our in-house CAD design and estimating teams support with programming, nesting, material advice and practical guidance on manufacture.

Core CNC capability:

  • Panel size up to 6m × 2m
  • 3-axis routing for profiling, apertures, pocketing and precision flat-panel work
  • 5-axis machining for angled features, curved forms and complex geometries
  • Precision tolerances typically down to 0.1 mm, subject to material and application
  • Prototyping through to full production runs
  • Component parts for larger assemblies and modular systems
  • In-house CAD/CAM programming and nesting (SolidWorks, Alphacam, etc)
  • Technical guidance from our CNC engineers on material behaviour, optimisation, machining approach and interior/exterior suitability
  • Material sourcing from trusted UK and European suppliers (where required)
  • Customer-supplied material machining, assessed for suitability before production

Supporting equipment:

  • 4m beam saw for accurate, repeatable panel cutting
  • Double-end tenoner for fast, consistent edge processing
  • Additional saws and handling equipment to support high-volume work
  • Dedicated inspection tools for in-process quality checks

Data and formats:

We work from a full range of digital and traditional inputs:

  • CAD files: STP, DWG, DXF, SolidWorks, Alphacam and other common formats
  • Existing programmes and part files
  • Hand sketches or drawings (which we can convert into manufacturable CAD data)

People, Process & Partnership

What sets Panel Systems apart isn’t just the machinery – it’s the way our team supports customers from first enquiry through to delivery and beyond.

Sales and CAD support

Our sales and CAD teams review drawings, advise on material suitability, prepare files for machining and identify potential issues before production begins.

Experienced production and joined-up workflow

On the shopfloor, experienced CNC operators manage the machining process, supported by clear production planning and in-process quality checks, and ensure careful packaging for delivery. By connecting sales, CAD, production and delivery, Panel Systems keeps projects efficient, timely and aligned with customer requirements.

After-sales support

Our support does not stop once components leave the factory. We remain available to answer questions, provide clarification, support repeat orders and help with design updates for future batches. The result is a CNC machining service that feels practical, reliable and easy to work with – before, during and after production.

Delivery and Packaging

Around 80% of our CNC output is delivered using our own fleet, giving us greater control over handling, timing and site access. Components are typically:

  • Protected with heavy-duty polythene and edge protection
  • Stacked on pallets
  • Shrink-wrapped

For more complex or sensitive assemblies, we can arrange bespoke packaging to ensure all parts arrive safely and ready for installation.

Why Choose PSL?

Customers choose Panel Systems for our flexibility, technical expertise and dependable service. With decades of experience in panels, laminates and composites, we help customers produce accurate, reliable components that are manufactured efficiently and built to perform – which is why much of our CNC work comes from long-standing relationships built on trust, reliability and consistent service.

Experienced material specialists

We understand how panels, laminates and composites behave, how they machine and how they perform once installed. This helps reduce risk, improve accuracy and ensure components are fit for purpose.

People you can speak to

Our sales, CAD and production teams are accessible, knowledgeable and easy to talk to. Customers deal directly with people who understand the realities of their project and can offer practical, informed support throughout.

Everything under one roof

Our Sheffield facility brings together 3-axis and 5-axis CNC machining, beam-saw cutting, edge processing, CAD/CAM programming and quality control, in-house – supporting efficient production, faster decision-making and consistent results.

Reliable delivery and support

Our own delivery fleet, careful packaging and practical after-sales support give customers greater confidence once components leave production.

Quality assured, responsible UK manufacturing

From our Sheffield manufacturing facility, we use ISO-certified processes, in-process checks and repeatability controls to support consistent quality across individual components and larger production runs. FSC® Chain of Custody is available where required, supporting responsible sourcing from a stable UK-based manufacturer.
