The manufacturing process for A2 FR-A non-combustible panels

Our non-combustible panels go through a bespoke, controlled manufacturing process, which includes stringent quality checks on each component to ensure they meet the required standard of the tested specifications.

At Panel Systems, we can supply FR-A non-combustible architectural panels in bespoke sizes to suit your needs. All of our panels are supplied from our Sheffield-based facility for delivery throughout the UK and beyond.

Our bespoke manufacturing process allows you to receive the panels at the right quality, size and thickness for your project. Our panels are also available in both anodised and powder-coated finishes to meet the aesthetic requirements.

Our A2 FR-A non-combustible composite panels achieve the following:

A2-s1,d0 classification

European Standard EN 13501-1:2018 provides the reaction to fire classification procedure for all products and building elements. According to this standard, reaction to fire is the response of a product or building material in contributing to a fire to which it is exposed, under specified conditions. Manufactured in accordance with the ISO 9001:2015 management standards, our range (FR-A Types 2, 3 & 4) of non-combustible panels achieves A2-s1,d0 classification when tested against the procedures detailed in EN 13501-1:2018.

Each sandwich panel has been specifically designed with a fire resisting, non-combustible insulation core of Nexus Stone Wool Lamella, the fire safe material for composite structures.

To receive a classification against EN 13501-1: 2018, Panel Systems’ range of FR-A Non-Combustible Architectural Panels required testing against two standards:

1. EN ISO 1716:2018

A sample of each material used in the panel was tested to determine the gross heat of combustion, also known as the calorific value. This value represents the maximum amount of thermal energy the material could contribute to a fire. The EN 13501-1 classification imposes strict limits on both the overall calorific value of the assembled panel, as well as limits on each component of the panel.

2. EN 13823:2020

Pairs of panels were assembled into an internal corner configuration; a gas burner was then used to apply a heat flux to the panels. Various measurements were taken including the total quantity of smoke produced (TSP), the smoke growth rate (SMOGRA), and the rate of heat release from the panel (FIGRA). Testing and classification was completed by the independent test house, Efectis France.

Manufactured to quality standard ISO 9001:2015

ISO 9001 is defined as the international standard that specifies requirements for a quality management system (QMS). Organisations use the standard to demonstrate the ability to consistently provide products and services that meet customer requirements. It is the most popular standard in the ISO 9000 series and the only standard in the series to which organisations can certify.

Can be manufactured to meet U-value requirements

Available in both anodised and powder coated aluminium facings, the panels also have excellent thermal & acoustic properties (calculations of which are available upon request) and can be manufactured to meet specific U-value requirements. The panels can also be manufactured in a range of different thicknesses to suit a building’s thermal requirements.

Compliant with Building regulations

Our A2 FR-A non-combustible panels are safe and legal to use in windows and curtain walling where there is a reaction to fire classification requirement of at least A2-s1,d0.

They are thermally efficient

A composite panel manufactured with decorative facing materials and insulated cores can help to improve the thermal efficiency of buildings and structures. Excellent thermal conductivity can help to make buildings more energy efficient and help to save on energy bills.
