If there’s one thing this year has given us, it’s plenty of time to take care of those home improvement projects.
With new research showing that many homeowners have completed four DIY jobs on average over the past few months, it looks like that’s exactly what many people have done. The report, commissioned by paint manufacturer Ronseal, found more than half of the 2000 adults questioned about their lockdown activities had taken on DIY projects that they had previously overlooked.
During the summer months, much of the work carried out was done in the garden or around the outside of the house. Now however, with darker nights and colder days upon us, more households are taking on indoor projects instead, including lining their lofts to increase storage space.
Lining a loft not only provides more storage space, but if insulated panels are used it also helps to improve the insulation in your home meaning less money spent on energy bills.
If the loft is accessible, with no damp or condensation problems and regular loft joists, installing loft storage boards can be quick, easy and cost effective, especially if bought direct from the manufacturer.
Our Styroloft boards, for example, are the ideal solution and can be purchased online via our website, with low minimum order quantities and in a range of sizes and thicknesses, including a new 33mm board. Better still, when bought direct from us, we can offer the most competitive prices.
Styroloft panels provide an insulating alternative to chipboard that will help to further reduce heat loss through the loft space, as well as providing a robust surface that can withstand occasional footfall and be used for storage.
Styroloft is manufactured from a Ravatherm XPS extruded polystyrene core which is sandwiched between two faces of 4mm Birch Plywood. It is available in thicknesses ranging from 18mm to 115mm and provides up to 15 times greater energy efficiency than standard 18mm chipboard alone.
Our standard 18mm Styroloft board is lightweight, weighing less than 3kg each, which is less than half the weight of a standard chipboard panel. The boards can be easily cut with standard hand tools without the need for specialist equipment or skills. This makes it easy to lift them through the loft hatch with no need to cut into smaller sections and piece back together once inside. The boards are supplied in a handy 1200 x 400mm size and are butted together to give a smooth and even surface. All key qualities that make Styroloft the ideal material for DIY loft storage projects.
