What is Rockpanel?
Rockpanel is a range of façade cladding panels manufactured by Rockwool, the Danish company best known for its stone wool insulation products. Rockpanel panels are made from compressed stone wool fibres, the same base material used in Rockwool’s insulation range, bound with a resin and finished with a protective coating on the face and reverse.
The stone wool composition gives Rockpanel a genuinely non-combustible core, which distinguishes it from many other cladding panel types. Stone wool fibres are derived from volcanic rock and will not burn, melt or contribute to fire spread. Rockpanel is widely used on buildings where fire performance is the primary requirement, including residential and commercial projects over 11 metres.

The Rockpanel Range
Rockpanel produces several panel types within the range, each suited to different aesthetic and performance requirements:

Rockpanel Colours
The most widely specified panel in the range, available in a palette of over 200 colours with a smooth coated surface. Suitable for the majority of rainscreen cladding applications and offering significant design freedom through colour alone.

Rockpanel Woods
A decorative panel with a realistic wood-effect surface, offering the warm, organic appearance of natural timber with the fire resilience, durability and weather resistance of stone wool fibre. A popular choice where a natural material aesthetic is required without the maintenance or combustibility of real wood.

Rockpanel Stones
Available in both smooth and textured surfaces in a palette of natural tones including chalk and limestone finishes. Provides the appearance of natural stone with the lightweight handling and fire performance advantages of stone wool fibre.

Rockpanel Metals
A panel with a metallic surface finish that creates striking light-reflective effects on facades. Suited to contemporary commercial architecture where an industrial or premium aesthetic is the design intent.

Rockpanel Chameleon
A distinctive panel incorporating a special crystal effect layer that causes the facade colour to shift and transform depending on viewing angle and light conditions. The effect is permanent and stable over decades, making it suited to landmark or feature facade applications where visual impact is the priority.

Rockpanel Premium
The top of the range panel offering the greatest design freedom, with the ability to combine any colour, design and finish from across the Rockpanel range. Secret fixing options are available, and almost any gloss grade can be specified. Suited to high-specification projects where bespoke facade design is required.
Key product properties
Non-combustible
Rockpanel’s stone wool fibre core is classified A2-s1,d0, meeting the non-combustible cladding requirements for buildings over 11 metres under UK Building Regulations, meaning the core material will not burn or melt.
Lightweight
Despite its robust composition, Rockpanel is relatively lightweight compared to fibre cement and stone alternatives, reducing load on the substructure and simplifying handling on site.
Weather and UV resistant
The factory-applied coating system is designed to resist UV degradation, rain and frost across the full service life of the panel without repainting.
Flexible and Impact Resistant
Stone wool fibre panels have a degree of inherent flexibility, allowing them to absorb minor impacts without cracking, a characteristic that sets Rockpanel apart from more brittle cladding materials such as fibre cement.
Excellent Acoustic Properties
The stone wool composition provides a degree of sound attenuation, which can be beneficial in façade systems on buildings in high-noise environments.
Low Maintenance
The coated surface requires no repainting and can be cleaned with water. The material does not support mould, algae or biological growth.

Typical applications
Rockpanel is specified across a wide range of building types, with particular strength in projects where fire performance is the overriding requirement:
- Rainscreen cladding on residential and commercial buildings
- Buildings over 11 metres requiring A2-rated non-combustible cladding
- Social housing and affordable housing refurbishment
- Education, healthcare and public sector buildings
- Timber-frame construction where non-combustible cladding is required
- Transport hubs, car parks and infrastructure projects
- Ground floor and high-traffic areas where impact resistance is needed
