What is Hardie® Panel?
Hardie® Panel is a fibre cement cladding board manufactured by James Hardie, a global building products company with over 130 years of experience in fibre cement technology. The product is designed for use as an exterior cladding panel on a wide range of building types, from residential new build to large commercial and mixed-use developments.
Fibre cement is made from a combination of cement, sand and cellulose fibres. The result is a panel that is hard, stable and highly resistant to the elements, including moisture, frost, fire and impact. Hardie® Panel is factory primed and can be painted on-site or supplied pre-finished, giving specifiers flexibility over the final appearance.

Typical applications
Hardie® Panel is specified across a wide range of project types, particularly where fire performance, weather resistance and value are all priorities:
- Rainscreen cladding on residential apartment buildings
- Buildings over 11 metres where a minimum of A2-classified materials are required
- Mixed-use and build-to-rent developments
- Social housing and affordable housing schemes
- Education and healthcare buildings
- Refurbishment of existing facades where non-combustible cladding is required
- Ground floor and podium level cladding in high-traffic areas

Key product properties
Non-combustible
Hardie® Panel achieves A2-s1,d0 fire classification, meeting the requirements for non-combustible cladding on buildings under UK Building Regulations.
Moisture and rot-resistant
The fibre cement composition is highly resistant to rot, swelling and warping when exposed to rain, humidity or standing water. Suitable for exposed locations and coastal environments.
Dimensionally stable
Hardie® Panel resists the expansion and contraction that affects timber-based cladding products, maintaining a consistent appearance and fit across the service life of the building.
Impact resistant
The hard, dense surface resists denting and surface damage, making it suitable for ground-floor applications and areas exposed to accidental impact.
Paintable surface
Supplied factory primed, Hardie® Panel accepts a wide range of exterior paints, giving architects full control over colour specification. Pre-finished options are also available.
Pest and fungal resistant
Unlike timber cladding, Hardie® Panel is not susceptible to insect damage, mould or fungal growth.
